Passing through Bangor – A post from Ike

Hey Folks,
Lindy and I got a surprise last Friday evening when Lee called from North Carolina and said that his deployment unit would be doing a stopover at the Bangor International Airport on their way to Germany/Kyrgyzstan/Afghanistan.

That gave us about 2 hours to get to the airport to greet him and 280 other Marines headed for a 7-month deployment in Afghanistan.

This will be Lee’s 2nd tour of Afghanistan.

When he left for his first tour in May 2009 we thought he would be doing a stopover in Bangor but instead flew directly from Cherry Point, NC to Ireland and then to Afghanistan.

Needless to say this was really cool because Lindy and I and her friend Dan were the only relatives greeting the Marines.

As you can see from some of the pictures Bangor has become world famous for its incredible troop greeter section.

Tens of Thousands of troops pass through here every year and are greeted (no matter the hour or day) by dedicated patriots.

There are all kinds of amenities and as you can see there is a massive amount of accumulated military memorabilia honoring those who have visited.

Hope you enjoy the pictures,

Love,
Ike

Thanksgiving in Boston

Sara and Jef hosted Thanksgiving in their new home this year. Grandma from Ohio (Barbara) and Uncle Ike joined them and other friends. Looks like Sara makes a mean turkey!

Halloween and the Haunting

Some images from our Halloween adventures.

This is a new slideshow program, not the best. BE SURE TO CLICK ON THE SMALL i (in upper right hand corner!) TO SEE THE CAPTIONS FOR EACH PHOTO. After that, hover at the bottom and click on slideshow/fullscreen for great effects; just be sure to read the captions first.

Bizzy Bees

Brian has a new musical group and they are performing at a local restaurant in a few weeks. One of the members made a great poster for them.

For some reason, there was a contagion effect in the family, hoping it can be contained to Topanga. (Zombies, now this? What’s going on up there?) Click on each for the full effect. (After you click, you’ll get a full page version; at the bottom right is a link to the next one.)

Not Our Usual Weather

I know a lot of you live in parts of the country where you see weather changes rather more dramatically than in LA. Claire took these pictures from her hilltop home just before we had our first thunderstorm of our paltry rainy season. Rarely do we see rain before November.  We’ll see what the new season brings this year.

Update on my move

So I am now in Dexter, Maine and starting to settle in. Kenny and I drove up in my little car that had way to much stuff in it and two very unhappy cats.  Our cats normally love the car but they could tell something was going on so they cried for the first 3 hrs.  We left right after my horse got onto the trailer and it took us about 25 hours to drive.  My horse made it about five hours after we did and was in great shape but happy to be off of the trailer.  Kenny flew back to GA Tuesday to finish this semester but will be moving up to ME after.  One thing was messed up though and that was my address.  My landlord gave us the wrong address number by mistake.  It is actually: 367 Ripley RD, Dexter ME 04930
