Poppy Fred’s sister-in-law, Mrs. Elaine Morgan of New Hampshire

A little beauty for your day

Dear Family,

Aunt Elaine is scheduled for knee surgery on Sept. 12, and is further incapacitated by a leg brace for a torn ligament in the same knee. I know all too well how miserable it is to be bedridden for a long time. I know also the pre-anxiety about operations (though Janek’s sister is the best source for what it’s like to have operation after operation . . . tough dame).

Anyway, I’ve been in touch with the whole Morgan gang in New Hampshire, and am so glad to be getting to know all of them as we all get older, and life becomes more precious. I know Aunt Elaine would be so supported and comforted by a call (603-298-8262) or a card . . . she loves cards, saves them all. Her address for those of you who don’t know it already:

Mrs. Elaine Morgan

9 Batchelder Ave.

West Lebanon, NH  03784

Lee is back!

I just Skyped Lee, and lo and behold, he’s been in Camp LeJeune, NC, since Monday! In September he has leave time and he’ll go to Maine among other places. He looks great and sounds intelligently grounded and humble. He’s going to Career Planning to possibly do some other kind of work for the remaining 2 years of his commitment to the Marines. If he can be placed elsewhere, he won’t have to do a third deployment to Afghanistan. His intention to be willing to sacrifice himself for his perception of what his country needed, is indeed honorable and praise-worthy. Welcome home, Lee, and thank you for your pure intention.

Sara Makes the Front Page!

Check out our [Boston College]psych department website.  They did a profile on my lab and the whole family is in the video.  I think it turned out pretty well, except for the really awkward shot of me walking into the lab – how staged does that look??!!!

To see the full video go to the BC website

A still from the video

Cousin Lynne Adele Morgan, another Morgan unsung writer

The mysterious author ponders in fairyland

I was thoroughly in awe as I looked at https://www.smashwords.com/books/search?query=L+A+Morgan.

Our New Hampshire cousin has written 15 books! Check out Smashwords.com for great possibilities for the rest of us aspiring-to-be-published writers. Lynne is a Buddhist practitioner, and woman of many talents. What a Morgan!

Amelia

Dear Family,
Amelia has accepted an athletic scholarship to attend and play volleyball for Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida. Flagler is a small school on the Atlantic coast north of Daytona. Jeanne and I visited St. Augustine often during our Floridays. Amelia will be near her godparents, and our great friends, Denny and Dori Vandendriessche and their two kids Jake and Jesse. Flagler has been Amelia’s first choice for over a year. She attended Flagler volleyball camps for the last two summers. She expressed early interest to the Flagler coaches and team members. In turn, they noticed Amelia’s skill, leadership and grace on and off the court. Appropriately, the Flagler offer, the family discussion, and our subsequent acceptance all took place around a campfire in southern Colorado as we were visiting Colorado colleges. The family decision was made under a starry sky in the San Luis Valley with 270 degrees of 14,000 ft. peaks including The Great Sand Dunes as the foothills to the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. We are very proud parents.

Christopher interviewed for the Georgetown Law Weekly

An excerpt:

“Christopher Morgan-Riess, 1L, organizes and oversees a student-based campaign at the Law Center to repeal the death penalty in Maryland.  This student advocacy group of 25 law students is currently circulating a petition to encourage Maryland State Senator Robert Zirkin, a Georgetown Law alum, to commit to an anti-death penalty position.  Morgan-Riess sat down with our staff writer to answer discuss his efforts to end the practice of capital punishment.”
